UNC Activity and Recreational Facility

A proposed betterment to the proposal - a northern outdoor plaza shielded from southern solar conditions.

Architecture State's Proposal for the University of Northern Colorado's Activity and Recreational Center in response to UNC RFP#2023. The 55,000 square foot facility serves as a space that connects the UNC campus to the greater community of Greeley, Colorado. The building features a gymnasium, pool, fitness spaces, a bistro, and a central atrium inclusive of several lounge spaces all aimed at fostering a sense of community throughout. The building utilizes a heavy timber structural system and passive cooling technologies to achieve LEED Silver Certification. To provide a more efficient footprint, the gymnasium is stacked above the pool, which sits four feet below grade. Special structural considerations, in accordance with AISC Design Guide 11, ensures vibrational characteristics of the gymnasium floor are optimal for recreational activities.
Additionally, our team provided a comprehensive estimate totaling construction costs at just over $30,331,000 (GMP plus fee, $546/sf) with a construction duration of 312 working days. An overlapped schedule with a multi-phased permitting approach allows for foundation permitting and construction to take place prior to 100% design development giving maximum utilization of allowable construction time per the RFP.
